Hidden Office Space

For those of you who work from home, I'm sure you can empathize with me when I say my best work happens when I have a clean, efficient (but still cute) work space. There is something to be said about how productive you can be when you are happy in your workplace.

I stumbled across this home-office space when looking through one of my favorite design blogs, The Little Green Notebook. This is such a clever way of arranging your workspace without occupying an entire room.

Jenny found an Ikea armoire off of Craigslist, added a fresh coat of BM Casco Bay paint and some brass ring pulls to finish it off.

And the best part.... When you're done working, shut off your computer and close the doors:

It's so easy, and such a smart solution to space issues.

A Pretty Way to Display Your Jewelry

Jewelry is wearable art, so why not display it as such even when you're not wearing it? I came across this great site, Budget Wise Home, featured on Little Green Notebook.

At BWH, under Jewelry Art display, you can purchase several different display frames and stands for your jewelry.

DIY Upholstered Headboards

I've been feeling the itch to redo my bedroom, and have fallen in love with the bold fabric choices I have seen for upholstered headboards.

I came across a tutorial on how to recreate a headboard similar to the ones above on Design Sponge. After watching the tutorial video, I'm confident I could make one of my own.

Now I just need to choose a fabric. There are so many places to look for fabrics online, from wholesalers to small retail shops, to ebay. Here are two from House Fabric (on the left) and two from Free Spirit Fabric (on the right).

Useful Logo Design Tutorials

I'm about to start a new line of note cards, and have been looking for some new ways to design in illustrator. I came across this blog post by Naldz Graphics that I found really helpful. In the post you're offered a glimpse into the creation process of several logos. The designers behind each share some of their experience in taking a concept from a sketch to a finished design.

Below are a few links to the logos that are broken down. For the full article visit Naldz Graphics.

Keep warm this winter with cute knits

I never thought living in Virginia would mean I'd have to cope with so much cold weather! The 2009-10 winter has certainly been one of the coldest that I can remember. That being said, my winter wardrobe is not exactly stocked with warm sweaters, wool scarves and least of all--knit hats.

I've been looking around to find some cute ways to keep my ears and head warm, and I remembered seeing Whitney Port wearing a really cute knit headband earlier this year:

Not sure where Whitney found her knit headband, I turned to my very reliable source for cute, handmade accessories: Etsy.
There are so many options on Etsy, but here's one that I found that I thought was a pretty close match:

Y. Rose is the designer responsible for these cute headbands. You can find them online at her Etsy shop: YRose. Here's what she says about them:

Beautiful black cozy headband in a 100% acrylic yarn. Also serves as an ear warmer!
Hand knitted, measures 3 1/4 inches in width and stretches to fit any head size.

...And for only $26.00, these headbands are too cute to pass up.

Add some color to your room!

If you look to the right, you'll see a list of links that I love. One of them is The Little Green Notebook Blog. A coworker introduced me to this blog, and I immediately subscribed. Here's why:

Jenny, at The Little Green Notebook, has the most amazing ideas for inexpensive home decor. Just looking at her blog makes you want to try any number of her tutorials. My goal this month is to make 2 pelmet boxes for my bedroom, based on this tutorial:

This is what the finished product looks like in the room. And below are a few images that illustrate the steps.

Jenny uses foam core board that you can get in sheets from Michael's ($1.99 each), some duct tape, a staple gun, batting and a little over a yard of colorful fabric. When you're all done, here's what you get:
